The Project
Overview
Laying gas pipelines through rocky ground needs narrow trenches blasted to depth without damaging the right-of-way, nearby lines or power infrastructure.
Rafique Shah & Co. carried out drilling and controlled blasting for rock trenching and right-of-way preparation on a series of SSGC pipeline projects in Sindh and Balochistan.
Scope of Work
Rock trenching for pipeline laying near village Loonikot, Super Highway, District Thatta (2003)
Rock trenching for the 18" diameter Interlink SSGC pipeline, Khadeji (FJFC, 2003)
Rock trenching and right-of-way preparation for the 8" Ziarat gas supply main pipeline (2004)
Drilling and blasting on the 90 km Kallat gas pipeline project
How We Did It
Our Approach
01
Trench design
Closely spaced, inclined holes and a higher specific charge, as narrow trench blasting requires.
02
Initiation
Electric or non-electric delay initiation; non-electric or protected systems used under high-tension lines.
03
Fly-rock control
Covering material and protection measures for people, property and power lines.
04
Monitoring
Ground vibration and air-blast measured with digital seismographs to protect nearby structures.
